How exact is vision correction after LASIK compared to glasses/contacts?

I have just began thinking about the possibility of LASIK. I've been told I need "moderate" vision correction. My eyes are identical with spheres of 3.50 and cylinders of -1.00. How does LASIK compare to glasses/contact for getting the best eyesight? Is it a lot more precise? A lot less? About the same? I'm interested in any info at all. Thank you!
